We had to remind staff, no politics, no religion. Plenty of other things to talk about.
I've never had a wait staff interject religion, politics, or whatever into our interactions and we eat out a lot.
What restaurants are you visiting that do that? I want to avoid them, and I'm in your territory very often.

What do you all think about fast food restaurants asking you to tip when ordering.

This takes the cake! This is about the funniest thing I’ve seen today.

Hell feck no. I will not be tipping when I get my food from the counter. Sit down and waited on is a different story

I’m probably an A-hole, and I’m completely fine with that.

I tip usually 10% unless the service is great, then I’ll tip very well. Also able bodied guys don’t get as good of a tip as girls. I get that from my dad.

He, I guess we, are of the belief that they knew what it paid before they took the job, and if they want more go get a different job. Jobs are EVERYWHERE!

There are a few exceptions, the local Mexican restaurant is staffed by guys, never seen a girl working there. They are always happy to see us and service is above and beyond. They get tipped very well.
There is a little local Diner that I sometimes get breakfast in if I’m working in the area, the bill will come to like $6.50, l give the lady a $20 and gladly.

That “fixed income” bs is complete bunk and one of my pet peeves. Everyone with a 8-5/9-5/shift work ect. job is “fixed income”. Very few of us can manipulate what we make week 2 week, and sometimes our week is pretty bad lol.

It’s class warfare bs. Even kagillionaire CEOs are on a “fixed income” if they are salary. My grandpa made more on SS per month than he did the first 28 of 32 yrs he worked at his job.
He earned that SS.

I worked as a dealer in a casino, 20 years ago. Dealers were paid $5/hr + tips.

BUT, all tips were pooled and divided between dealers AND PIT BOSSES.

I had several players that only played at my table. I went on break, they did not play. I moved to a different table, they moved. I received 4 - $100 tips, one day. Total was over $1200. All went to the pool.

One dealer was sullen, total lack of personality. He usually had 0-1 players, unless we were very busy.

I quit, after 3 months. I made decent money, but the policies were unpalatable.

Pooling of tips is a guaranteed NO TIP, by me. The entire premise of tips is personal reward for excellence.
We went to Vegas many years ago and met a guy from Ponca that was working at Cesars as a breakfast busboy. Said he had to pay the equivalent of the pit boss in the restaurant $10 grand to get his job. His mother was a waitress, and had to pay $25,000 for that job. The money comes back quickly but just the thought of having to pay for a job is insane.
We got a hell of a tour around the town with an insider that had access to the back door of lots of casino's.

The difference between a 10% and a 15% tip on a $50 meal is $2.50. going up to 20% would be another $2.50. It really adds up (or doesn't) when you're on the receiving end. I realize I've been blessed. I did without for many years and paid my dues. Now that I'm comfortable, I'm a better tipper than I could afford to be then.

A tip is meant to show appreciation for excellent service, not to subsidize their salary .
Yes and no.
Look at minimum wage versus "tipped minimum wage".

2.13 versus 7.25. Apparently the lawmakers that decide such things felt that tips are subsidizing their salary.

I look at it two ways - 1. the tip is earned because of excellent service, 2. the tip is a reflection of how I have more than I need, and that I'm grateful for not having to bust my ass all day like the servers do. Might as well share the wealth, which I don't mind as long as I get to choose who I share it with.

The tranny at the coffee shop with a ring in his face, nope.
The Mexican chick that works 12 hours a day to feed her kids, yep.

I was speaking from the context of previously working in restaurants in bars, especially bars. Basically, they should keep quiet unless they want to learn the hard way.

Let’s pay lawmakers a bare minimum wage and make them earn tips, and I bet they’d correct this crap. :censored: :finger:
