Iranian is a religion?
That's close. William Dudley Pelley, the leader of the Silver Shirts, an American fascist movement from the 1930's, ran for President in 1936 against FDR. He is the last presidential candidate in America that could be truly called a fascist.I don't know about the silver shirt, but I've seen him in a tie, and possibly in a campaign hat... No bundles of sticks, though.
Yeah, Okie is a religion sorta too isnt it? lolIranian is a religion?
Like the Shah. But he didn't have to and it would still have been legal to block them from coming in. Read this, in particular the Terrorist part, it gives the President a lot of power to block immigrants http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/USCODE...11-title8-chap12-subchapII-partII-sec1182.htm
Trump says that blocking Muslims is not about religion, it's about safety. He's wants to block entire group of people based solely on their religious beliefs, but it's not about religion? Even based on the Trump scale of BS, that's a solid 9.
http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2015/12/09/glenn-reynolds-liberals-have-chosen-donald-their-destructor/76996298/Choose the form of the Destructor, says the demon in Ghostbusters. Bill Murray, et al., got the giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Our political and media elites, on the other hand, got Donald Trump.
Everyone is aghast at Trumps latest plan, to suspend all immigration by Muslims. But its no coincidence that Trumps announcement came less than a day after a limp, toneless speech by President Barack Obama on terrorism, one that left Americans feeling much less safe....
Obama...responded to an attack by Islamic State-linked Muslims with a mixture of pablum and an effort at distraction by talking about gun bans for people on the no-fly list. (Even lefty publications like the LA Times and Slate thought that idea dumb)....
People who are unhappy with the things Trump is saying need to understand that hes only getting so much traction because hes filling a void. If the responsible people would talk about these issues, and take action, Trump wouldnt take up so much space.
And theres a lesson for our ruling class there: Calling Trump a fascist is a bit much (fascism, as Tom Wolfe once reported, is forever descending upon the United States, but somehow it always lands on Europe), but movements like fascism and communism get their start because the mechanisms of liberal democracy seem weak and ineffectual and dishonest. If you dont want Trump or, perhaps, some post-Trump figure who really is a fascist to dominate things, you need to stop being weak and ineffectual and dishonest.
Right now, after years of Obama hope-and-change, a majority of Americans (56%) think Islam is incompatible with American values. Thats true even for 43% of Democrats.
In that sort of environment, where people feel unsafe and where the powers-that-be seem to be, well, weak and ineffectual and dishonest, the appeal of someone who doesnt seem weak and ineffectual grows stronger.
Even if that religion says to kill us? Whether true or not isn't the point, the point is that THEY BELIEVE IT and ACT ON IT.
