Wife wanted to go to Cracker Barrel for dinner tonight and since I have only eaten there once I wanted to try it again.

Being how I had 5 more broken teeth removed from another fall, and a new upper denture I wanted something soft and easy to chew. Since I had never tried grilled Rainbow trout I ordered that, knowing it would not be as good as fresh caught. It was not bad but I burped it for hours.

The beans and mac & cheese were not bad for a restaurant. In fact I think the mac & cheese was Stouffer's which the wife and I both like. Wife said the shrimp dinner was good. Next time I will try the shrimp or a hamburger steak.

Now for the good part and what made it worth going to. While checking out we happen to notice a selection of roll candies. Lifesaver 5 flavor, Lifesavers Butter Rum, and Reed's root beer. We bought one of each because it has been decades since we have seen the butter rum or root beer. I ate one of the root beer tonight and they still taste like the real thing. We will be going back every now and then since it does not cost anymore than Boomerang and the food is much better.

When we go on our road trips twice a year, we always stop and eat there on our way to where we’re going.

They are a safe choice when you know you are getting back on the road for hours after eating. The food is always consistent and the wife likes breakfast for dinner. They also have a pretty decent turkey and dressing on thursdays.

I personally like the chicken and dumplings or the chicken fried steak. Like I said, they are always a consistent and safe choice.

Haha! Grumpy and I were there this evening, too. He took me out for Mother's Day. And I had some apple butter on my biscuit for dessert. Lol I LOVE their apple butter, too.

I usually have the fried chicken but for some reason opted for Grumpy's staple and had meatloaf and mashed potatoes. It was decent. I think I like the fried chicken better, though.

I've had the beans and cornbread before. It's not bad.

We have a Cracker Barrel here in town and the food is pretty good but it has to be one of the most noisy places to eat that I've ever been to.

It's difficult to enjoy your meal and have a conversation with all the chatter and clatter going on. I guess the way it is built, all the sound bounces off of everything and carries all over.

I started liking Cracker Barrel back in the 90s when I first experienced one in TN while traveling to Nashville. Their breakfast really can't be beat. I'm a fan of the Sampler that gets you everything on the menu: all 3 meats, hash brown casserole, grits, biscuit/gravy, fried apples, & eggs any way you want. I also like several of their sides that go with the dinners so I often get 3 sides. I usually make it a point to get there in March so I can get their corned beef & cabbage dinner special.
