According to that blowhardprick in the legislature(former trooper and shill for the OSTA),No one in the state has ever been proned out for accidentally having his gun exposed. and if I remember the open carry thread we had many leo's express that they would just let the person know it's showing, but what would you expect from those hipocrits on a gun forum.:anyone:

It would appear that that's no longer the case.

I have to think that this incident, if handled correctly, could help get OC passed. Possibly, maybe? But if the O/P doesn't want to go "that public" it's totally understandable.

So, you calling my husband a hipocrite?? Because he is one of the JBTs here who said that he would just let someone know and go on about his business. As a matter of fact there is a thread here to just that effect. We were at dinner one night and a guy's ccw was exposed. No one got shot, no one had their nose buried in the carpet. Just a simple "hey dude" and that was it.

Just because one cop would not "prone out" someone for exposing their weapon doesn't mean that every single cop in the state wouldn't ... officer discretion.

Sorry for what you went thru today, but, now youre going to be a poster child for what not to do with your CC when riding a motorcycle. Some pretty scary stuff you went thru and now to be possibly having your permit suspended sucks bigtime. I have worried about just this same scenario happening to me if I accidentally printed or brandished. I believe yours was an accident and you didnt know it had happened. But you are still liable. I agree that you might have been treated a little rough, but then they arent messing around these days with all that has gone on around the country with gun violence and we maybe should all be glad that they are out there doing their jobs as they didnt know you from a can of paint, and even CC holders commit crimes with their weapons. Still sucks.

I knew about the type of knife you can carry and what not to be carrying in Oklahoma though,I'm good there. I carry knives that are similar to the Spyderco Delica that was mentioned earlier.

side note based on this post I am guessing you don't ride ATGATT (all the gear all the time). No matter how warm or cold you should, and wellthat extra layer not only saving your arse should something happen would also provide a little extra to prevent wind blowing your shirt up exposing the situation. Glad you walked out of it without new jewelry and a new house temporarily.

I say; learning point for both sides... There is always something to learn, from any side than you look at a situation or occurance.

For this LEO's, I believe that this could have been handled a little better by the officer. You (taymoor) have already cooperatively pulled over for him before the bad part of your situation occured, so you are off to a good start (most motorcyclist don't). If you haven't made a move for your weapon(that he already knows about because of your accidental brandishing) Once you have pulled over, your getting 2 positive checks already (didn't run, didn't grab your gun) Then he should have made some kind of call/warning to you as he stepped out of his car or over his loud speaker to the effect of "Do not reach for your weapon, I know you have a gun, and that this is just a routine traffic stop" He could have had you disarm yourself or came up to you, with your hands on your head, and talked you through his process of dissarming you and have a cordial conversation with you, determing who you are, confirming your identity (he already ran a background check on you according to what you have said)

You as well could learn something from this incident. Do your best to not put yourself in this situation to begin with, wear the protective jacket that is meant for riding that you probably already have. They are vented and feel fine even in 100* weather once you are moving. Wear shirts that aren't likely to "print" or blow up over your weapen or just slide your holster around to the front side right before you get on your motorycle. I've extinsively ridden every style of motorcycle on and off the road (its part of my job, as well as my lifestyle) and if you are leaning on the tank with your crotch/lower abdomine (where a front holster would sit) then you are not correctly positioning your body to properly control your motorcycle.... So a front mount holster or sliding your rear holster around to the front for your ride should not impede your movement or comfort on a motorcycle for short, around town rides (it can be carried differently during long trips and why would you have it on a race track?)

Do I think the LEO acted excessively? Yes.

Do I think this could have been prevented by you? Most Deffinatly.

Do I also think that you should follow this up with the Stillwater PD? Yes, only if the outcome will be in your favor and for the betterment of society at large.

Do I think you should contact Jimmy Bunn at OSBI to find out what your legal rights are and if things went down badly from a legal perspective? Yes. And I will see him next week and invite you to come with me, call me.

Like GTG said. Get a copy of the report.

If it were me I'd want to know if they actually saw the gun or saw it printing. I'd also be curious to know how the officer knew you had a permit "before he pulled you over". Did they tail you for long enough to run a criminal check? Bottom line is if it's not accurate, I would fight it if it were me, provided OSBI does something that is.

Looks like your out of luck on the knife and that really sucks. That's why I don't carry an assisted opener. I find it a little odd that with your permit you can carry a loaded gun but not an assisted opening knife. Our knife laws suck and we need open carry big time.

I was talking to an ORA member awhile back and pointed out this scenario and got the "nobody gets in trouble" line and also "we'll have rednecks with strap-on thigh holsters running around" line. I pointed out that the 40 odd other states that have open carry don't have an issue. His reply was "sure they have cases of the rednecks" (paraphrased), like that was enough right there to not have open carry. I could see that is was going to get nowhere, so I just left him with if "rednecks" were a real problem the Brady bunch and News Nazis would be blasting us with it every day, and I let it drop with that.

Sounds like you were talking to "Mr Shooter". I had a similar conversation with him a few weeks ago. He is not in favor of open carry and the ORA claims to be neutral but I suspect their neutral leans hard to anti-OC.

Where's Micheal Brown, doens't he always tell us these things don't happen?

in a school zone because that is where he pulled me over. He knew I was legally carrying and accidentally showing. Not appropriate. just my thoughts

Point of order: If your pistol was showing you were not legally carrying....permit or no permit.

Once you crossed that line, any action the officers take in order to ensure their safety and the safety of bystanders while addressing the situation is not up to you in regards to what is appropriate or excessive.

Only lesson here is don't carry illegally...knives or guns.
