If I remember correctly, everyone voted in favor of the committee sub. I wrote down the vote but it is on my desk at work. I'll update this after I get that list.

Here is how the committee sub vote went down:
In favor of the committee sub - Garrison, Johnson, Justice, Russell, Sikes, Barrington, Shorty
Opposed to the committee seb - Ballenger, David

The vote to pass the Committee Sub as HB2522 out of committee:
In favor of - Garrison, Justice, Russell, Sikes, Barrington, David, Shorty
Opposed - Ballenger, Johnson

The idea of the committee process is so the entire chamber doesn't have to review every bill. The committee is supposed to fix up any bills it gets and bring to the full floor the best ideas they can come from. In this case, the senate pub safety committee thought the house bill could be done better so they fixed it up with their committee sub to take to the floor. The theory is so that it can go to a conference committee and be worked out there the taken back to both chambers for final vote. With luck, when it gets to the conference committee they will restore the original language and both houses will pass it.

Are you a senate staffer or what hrdware... :scratch:

You seem to have a problem with understanding that the bill as Russel changed it is dead on arrival and why that upsets so many here.. It won't pass the house. It was either shenagigans meant, at worst, to kill OC this year or a misguided last ditch effort, by a pro 2nd senator, who to the best of my knowledge is retiring this year, to get what would essentially be constitutional OC in OK to make him feel good on his way out. Either way pro 2nd, self reliant citizens lose and the antis win.

Stop apologizing for the BS that happened in the senate committee. Stop explaining - we get it! In a perfect world full of honest and ethical politicians your well thought out and detailed explanations would be apropos. In a world full of politicians who speak out of both sides of their mouths, who don't even understand why the voters have nothing but disdain for the lying, hypocrital lot of 'em your explanations don't hold water.

That said:
From what little I know of Senator Russel he is a good man. He served in Iraq and if my info is correct was one of the men who played an active part in the capture of Sadaam Hussein. He's a very pro supportor of the 2nd and has helped the cause in OK greatly. If OC goes down in flames because the house just won't go for Russel's changes that's going to be his legacy. That's what people who care about our stolen rights and getting them back will remember.

As Marc Antony said at Julius Caesar's funeral
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones;

Everyone makes mistakes and this time Senator Russel just plain screwed the pooch.

That's all there is to it.

And in the final analysis that's really all that matters.

Nope I don't work for any form of government.

I was at the meeting just because I wanted to hear what they did with HB2522 on my own. Had it been broadcast, I would have listened to it on the internet.

I agree that this was a bad idea and should not have been done. Do I think constitutional carry is a good thing, yes. Do I think Oklahomans are ready for constitutional carry, no.

I am not trying to defend him or any of those who voted for it. People wanted to know why he did this and I explained his reasons. Some people still didn't get his reasons so I tried to explain further, I am by no means defending his actions on this bill. I can see his side to the argument even though I don't agree with it so why should I not try and explain his position to people?

The only thing I'm sorry about is that others on the committee didn't stand up against him and leave HB2522 the way it was. I have never apologized for any of them.

I found it interesting how Constance Johnson voted for the committee substitute, then voted against the bill going to the floor of the senate. Clearly, she thinks Russell's version has less chance to pass and go to the Guv'ner.

If they can ramrod this throught and Ms Fallin signs it - I'll take it. But as much as I like it- it's too much to soon and I expect the latest version of the bill to fail as written at this moment.

If the bill gets enacted... it will be the first sow's ear ever turned to a silk purse.

Yes really. I'm not talking about responsible gun owners, I'm talking about the general population. DPS won't currently support constitutional carry. Since they won't support it, there is almost zero chance of it passing. Going in small increments is the way to go.

That's a bit late to do any good this year isn't it.

Werewolf, sorry, I've been away for a few days. The Second Amendment day at the capitol isn't just about open carry. OK2A has more on it's agenda than just restoring open carry (although that certainly is our highest priority right now). There is also Campus Carry, repeal of the Gun Free School Zones Act (ask me why), parking lot storage of AMMO in your car along with your firearm, etc.

I hope many will make an effort to come out and show support. It will certainly make a statement to our elected congress-critters!
