Stay on track, you have been given some sound advice.

Personally, i would take the truck back with all the paperwork, then ask to see the manager.

Next I would calmly explain the situation to the manager, and for the aggrevation of $48, He has 3 choices.

1. Pay the $48
2. Fill or refill the truck with gas.
3. Toss the keys in his face and give him truck back. Then accept the consequences of doing the right thing.
