Buying a car in Texas

My new car in OK was not appreciably different than same in TX, so bought in state, where car naturally was obtained from TX dealer who had one on lot. Dealers swap cars all the time across the state line. Yes, I dickered, "This is what I will pay, and if a dime added, you can eat the car for all I care," knowing true invoice ranges (those vary by dealer and state, and they DO need to turn a profit), and I ended up with new for same as most dealers price used.

You could just buy the car, get a paper tag, and apparently drive it for the rest of your life - even if it is expired. Sometimes I feel like a chump for obeying the law and following rules.

Call it a All terrain vehicle, put a smv sign on the back. No tag or insurance, required, with access to public roads. I do not even see the State hwy law being enforced on them in my area, State Trooper will wave and cruise right on by.
No DL requirement either. Just need to be over 14.
I think every town in Oklahoma allows them on the streets.

Don't you Love how they try to get you to think they have put a low price on the window, and say, come buy a car here, you won't have to dicker. all our cars are marked to sell. $100.00 over invoice.

I like it because I know when they say that, I do not have to waste time at their place.

Then the ones who say that is as low as I can go.
Me Okay see ya. Leave and go Home. Phone blows up all the way Home. I usually wait a day and call back with a price from another dealer for same car at a lower price.
Usually works. They do not like to compete with each other, At least they know I will not purchase there first few offers. I always have my own financing too. Sometimes they can beat a bank finance though, because they get incentives for financing with certain lenders at the year end. A lot like the floor plans they get from the brand they are selling. The more and quicker they sell the more year end bonus they get from the manufacturers.

Car before last - actual two cars ago I guess now...Anyway, it was a Texas car. You just buy it, tell them you're titling it in OK if it's a dealership, and you're done. They'll give you all the paperwork you need and mail your title generally within two weeks if it's not in the paperwork packet for cash buyers. Unsolicited opinion: Financing a car is stupid. Cash or you can't afford it.

Took me almost 8 weeks to get my title from Grubbs in Grapevine. Had to pay the registration penalty my self. Never again.

I’ve bought several over the years in Dallas. I echo that you need to pay and get the paperwork. Unless the dealer is familiar with Oklahoma there’s a chance the title will not get handled correct the first time.

Heck, I bought a VW Jetta for my daughter years back in Dallas and had it delivered to my home for more than $1000 less than Cable (remember them) wanted for the same car.

If it's a used vehicle from Texas be sure and check the back seat for stains. Pretty safe bet there's been some homo activity in it.
